Overview

Migrate VM engines is a kind of task that was present from Virtualization era until today. However the current challenges mix not only homogeneous migration but add a mix of complexity migrate also to distinct solutions.

Bellow he created some categories:

Keep source and destination using the same underlay technology.

Common Multi Cloud technology for this we can consider VMware Engine Solutions that today are present in most Cloud Solution Providers

Here the destination target changes. Not considering the complexity level of this change the idea is move the workload performed by the VM to a new destination services with changes. This list we can consider:
– Migrate to container solutions running in distinct models.
– Migrate to PaaS services that runs the software that the virtual machine runs. Very Common case here Database Engines, Crontab like Schedule Engines, WebSites, e-mails services and Scan Based Security Security Services.

Now an list of tools that help orchestrate and perform the task.
The list below has the software that I’ve used in projects and worked fine each one has own pro and cons and their own strategies.

Those solution normally are the bases of Disaster Recover solutions.
